Bilāl ibn Rabāḥ (Arabic: بِلَال بِن رَبَاح) (5 March 580 – 2 March 640) was one of the Sahabah (companions) of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Bilal Ibn Rabah (R.A.) was the first Muezzin of Islam (Muslim official of a mosque who summons the faithful to prayer from a minaret of a mosque five times a day). He was chosen as the first Muezzin by the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) himself. He is, generally, known as "BILAL HABASHI". On 19 April 2004, Berzengi and Abdullah were arrested along with Shaho Shahab, from Iraqi Kurdistan, and Bilal Ramadan, born in Lebanon. Ramadan was released in September after a court found that there was not enough incriminating evidence. Bilal (Arabic: بلال Bilāl), or variants, is both a given name and a surname of Arabic/African origin.
