Recently, some shopping centers across different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman have begun introducing the Ramadan basket ahead of the holy month. This basket contains 17 to 19 food products at reasonable prices, not exceeding 10 Omani Rials, to ease the financial burden on consumers and provide essential weekly supplies for families. The Sultanate of Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has launched the Ramadan basket initiative across all governorates. The basket includes rice, flour, dates, Arabic coffee, cooking oil, sugar, milk, oats, semolina, tomatoes, cheese and pasta among other items. Khalid al Siyabi, Director of Market Regulation and Monitoring Department at CPA, said the authority has taken proactive measures to address the needs of citizens during Ramadan. The basket saves a lot of time, effort, and money for the consumer. The meeting stressed the need to provide the Basket, which includes several basic commodities, for consumers from different segments of society in Oman at reasonable and affordable prices. A key initiative includes collaboration with major commercial centers to roll out the highly sought-after Ramadan Basket—a cost-effective package of essential food items. This year, the Ramadan basket comprises 17 to 19 staple products, priced at no more than RO 10.
