Ramadan (Arabic: رَمَضَان, Ramaḍān) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is also the month in which the Quran is believed to have been revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The exact beginning and ending times of the month of Ramadan are based on the sighting of the first crescent Moon on the last night of the eighth month (Sha’ban). Specifically, Ramadan is said to begin at the first observance of the crescent Moon over Mecca, Saudi Arabia (or on a date predetermined by astronomical calculation). Ramadan is a month dedicated to personal reflection, spiritual growth, and self-discipline. By fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims develop patience, humility, and resilience, drawing closer to Allah through their devotion. When is Ramadan 2025? This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Friday 28th February 2025, and end on the evening of Sunday 30th March 2025, depending on the sighting of the moon.
