Ramadan (Arabic: رَمَضَان, Ramaḍān) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is also the month in which the Quran is believed to have been revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn Ramadan[b] (Arabic: رَمَضَان, romanized: Ramaḍān [ra.ma.dˤaːn]; [c] also spelled Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, or Ramathan) is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer (salah), reflection, and community.
