O, Allah! I shall fast for Your sake, so forgive my future and past sins. Dua (Prayer) at the Beginning of the Fast 1. وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ. Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan. I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan. Or you can also recite the following: Dua (Prayer) at the Beginning of the Fast 2. When we do sehri and close our fast at fagr , we do the intention(niyat) of fast. From fagr to maghrib(when we open the fast) it is the same day. But the intention(niyat) of fast is: I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan. Dua (niyat-intention) Prayer at the Beginning of the Fast in Ramadan share نـَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ غـَدٍ عَـنْ ا َدَاءِ فـَرْضِ شـَهْرِ رَمـَضَانَ هـَذِهِ السَّـنـَةِ لِلـّهِ تـَعَالى According to the verse, a Muslim cannot skip the fast of Ramadan unless he/she is sick or on a journey. Therefore, witnessing the month of Ramadan itself is the intention (niyyah) of a Muslim to fast. ‘Niyat’ is an Arabic word which means “protection from the Hell fire.” Being the most significant ten days of the Islamic calendar, it is believed that the “Night of Power” (Laylatul Qadr) resides within the third Ashra. So, it’s not compulsory to fast only in Ramadan because you can also fast other than Ramadan to keep yourself healthy and purify the soul. You can make a habit of fasting on Monday and Thursday to develop strong faith and self-restraint. The Niyat (Intent) for keeping fast. The fasts of the month of Ramadan are obligatory. When the Crescent is sighted we should declare to ourselves that, we will keep all fasts during this month wajib qurbatan ilallah i.e., to attain nearness to Allah.
