A lot of the Saudis would just stay up all night eating and drinking then not bother coming into work (they were on reduced hours anyway). It’s described in surah al qadr and verses 3-6 of surah al dukhan, and in many ahadith, in English it’s called the night of decree. It’s the night that the Quran was first revealed, and on the night that Allah decrees every matter coming year, Seriously, any good deed done during Ramadan gets you extra merit points, including dying for Allah. It's like a seriously twisted version of Buddhism's already weird merit system. The sad part about all this is that it involves Muslims killing other Muslims for not being Muslim enough.
