When Is Laylatul Qadr? The Night of Power occurs within the final 10 nights of Ramadan. Traditionally, many believe it to be the 27th night of Ramadan, based on certain narrations. In 2025, this could fall on the night of 27th March, although it may vary depending on the sighting of the moon. Laylat al Qadr 2025 will be observed on the night of Saturday, 6th April, 2025. Laylat ul Qadr, also called ‘Night of Power’ the most coveted night of Islamic Year. Night of Qadr is in one of the odd nights of last 10 days of Ramadan. Laylat al-Qadr is in the last ten days of Ramadan, as stated in the hadith of Abu Sa’eed quoted above, and as stated in the hadith of ‘Aa’ishah, and in the hadith of Ibn ‘Umar who said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten days of Ramadan.” Laylat al-Qadr, Islamic festival that commemorates the night on which God first revealed the Qurʾān to the Prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel (Jibrīl). It is believed to have taken place on one of the final 10 nights of Ramadan in 610 ce, though the exact night is unclear. Laylatul Qadr, also known as the “Night of Decree” or “Night of Power,” is one of the most significant nights in the Islamic calendar. It is believed to be the night when the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). What is Laylatul Qadr? Laylatul Qadr translates to the ‘Night of Power’ or ‘decree’. While the entire month of Ramadan is filled with blessings and virtues, Laylatul Qadr represents its pinnacle. However, unlike most celebrations, Laylatul Qadr is marked with prayers, supplications, and acts of worship and devotion. According to Hadith, Laylatul Qadr is either on the 19th, 21st or 23rd night of Ramadhan. More emphasis is laid on the 21st and the 23rd, particularly on the 23rd. The A`maal for this night are: 1. The common A`maal for the three nights of Qadr, including: a) Ghusl. b) Namaz and Tasbih. It is no coincidence that i`tikaf (seclusion in the masjid) is also recommended in Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to practice i`tikaf for the entirety of the last ten days of Ramadan. What is Laylatul Qadr? By far however, there is no day or night that has been emphasized more than the night known as laylat al-qadr (the Night of Decree). Laylatul Qadr is the Night in which Allah sends down all His commands for the next year. It is the Night when our destiny is decreed for the next year. There is only one thing that the Prophet said can change Divine Decree, and that is dua! With regard to specifying which night of Ramadan is Laylat al-Qadr, this needs specific evidence, but the odd-numbered nights during the last ten nights are more likely than others, and the night of the twenty-seventh is the most likely to be Laylat al-Qadr, because that is mentioned in the ahadith. The theological significance of Laylatul-Qadr Islamic scholars differ regarding the meaning behind the name of ‘ Laylatul-Qadr ’, as the word ‘Qadr’ can hold a variety of meanings, and each has its own theological significance. Some scholars defined ‘Qadr’ in the context of this holy night as ‘destiny/decree’ (qadar). To them Laylatul Qadr 2024 occured in one of the last 10 nights of Ramadan, with a focus on the odd nights. Why is Laylatul Qadr called the Night of Power? Laylatul Qadr or the Night of Power, is described as such to illustrate the significance of what the night entails for humankind. Shia Muslims similarly believe that Laylat al-Qadr is to be found in the last ten odd-numbered nights of Ramadan but mostly on the 19th, 21st or 23rd of Ramadan with 23rd being the most important night. Given the significance of the night of laylatul qadr, the last ten nights of Ramadan ul Mubarak are extra important in terms of spirituality and religious potentiality. So, the primary reason for the significance of the last ten nights is the potential occurrence of Laylat al-Qadr within this period. 6. Dua for Laylatul Qadr (What to read during the last ten days of Ramadan) اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفْوٌ تٌحِبٌّ العَفْوَ فَأَعْفَوْ عَنِّي. Aisha (RA) said, “I asked the Messenger of Allah: ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?’ The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever stands in prayer during Laylatul Qadr out of faith and hope for reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih Bukhari) 6. Strengthening Community Bonds. Ramadan fosters a sense of community and unity among Muslims. Ramadan is a blessed month for Muslims worldwide, and within it lies a night that is more valuable than a thousand months – Laylatul Qadr. This sacred night holds immense significance, as it is the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Laylatul Qadr, or the Night of Decree, is one of the most significant nights in Islam, marked by immense blessings and divine mercy. Allah has concealed its exact timing to encourage believers to strive in worship throughout the last ten nights of Ramadan. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven ."
