Does this mean that the entire Holy Qur’an was revealed at once during the month of Ramadan alone? According to historical record, it is known that Qur’anic revelation upon the Holy Prophet (sa) spanned over the 23-year course of his prophethood. The Quran was revealed to the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) at the beginning of his mission, and the first revelation came in the month of Ramadan, on Laylat al-Qadr, as Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): The end of Ramadan is marked by the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr, which is characterised by gratefulness and joy among Muslims. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Verses From The Quran about Ramadan. The Quran, being the ultimate source of guidance for Muslims, explicitly mentions the month of Ramadan in Surah Al-Baqarah: 1. The Quran was revealed during the month of Ramadan, particularly on Laylatul Qadr, a night considered to be of great spiritual significance. These contextual details are essential for understanding the Quran, as they offer insight into the challenges and teachings that shaped its divine message. 3. Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185) – The Month of Ramadan and Revelation of the Quran “The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So, whoever sights (the new moon of) the month, let him fast it.” What makes Ramadan unique is its intimate link with the Quran. Revealed over 1,400 years ago, the Quran is the direct word of God. It’s not just a book but a guide for life, offering wisdom, comfort, and answers to life’s deepest questions. Ramadan is the (month) in which the Qur’an was sent down, as a guide to mankind and a clear guidance and judgment [so that mankind will distinguish right from wrong]. [Sûrah Al-Baqarah, 2:185] Imagine a man in a desert receiving a nail one day, a piece of wood the next, a door handle one week, Revelation of the Quran Ramadan is also the month in which the Quran, the holy book of Islam, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Night of Decree, or Laylat al-Qadr, which falls during the last ten days of Ramadan, is believed to be the night when the Quran was first sent down. It is a time for intense reflection, worship, and prayer.
